Do I need a doctor’s referral to make an appointment?

No! Physiotherapists have what is referred to as direct access, meaning that physiotherapists are front-line allied health care professionals and you do not need a referral to see one.

Are your services covered by insurance?

Most major private insurance companies will cover physiotherapy treatments when receipts are issued by members of the Ordre Professionnel des Physiotherapeutes du Quebec (OPPQ). Please check with your insurer to see what your specific plan covers. Following payment for your visit, a receipt will be issued containing all of the details usually required for insurance reimbursement.

What training do physiotherapists have?

Physiotherapists are university graduates who hold either a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in physiotherapy. Their university education is comprised of theory and practical courses, internships in various domains of practice, as well as research projects. Physiotherapists practicing in Quebec are members of the Ordre Professionel des Physiotherapeutes du Quebec, and are governed by the rules and regulations of that order. Physiotherapists are required to keep their knowledge up to date by completing continuing education courses every year, and most will choose to specialize in a specific domain of practice.
